Event Details - Miramichi Transit Free Ride Day

Miramichi Transit, the Rotary Club of Newcastle and the Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi have joined forces to offer a free community service as a way of giving back to during the holiday season.
On Dec. 23 and Dec. 24, a Free Ride Day will be offered to all passengers on Miramichi Transit buses operating throughout the city. On both of these days, riders will enjoy free rides to get anywhere they need to go from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. This initiative has been made possible through a sponsorship by the Rotary Club of Newcastle and Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi.
Rotary Club public relations chairperson Stacey Sutherland said Rotary wanted to be a part of the event as a way to give back to the community.
"Whatever good you do travels a circle and returns to you many times over," said Sutherland. "The Newcastle Rotary is proud to give back to our community as a gesture of thanks for their continued support of Rotary projects."
"There's a lot of projects that we do where the whole city knows but there's also a lot of small stuff that we do behind the scenes," adds Lucas Durelle, president of the Miramichi Kinsmen. "We're constantly looking out for our community."
The Rotary mission is ‘Service Above Self’, and the non-profit organization has been operating internationally since 1943. The Rotary Club of Newcastle raises funds to help support both community and world service projects. Ribfest in May and the Purse Auction in November are some major fundraisers. The funds raised help support purchases such as musical instruments, mountain bikes and a major scholarship locally and wells, shelter and bed kits internationally.
Since 1953, the Kinsmen Club of the Miramichi has been 'Serving the Community's Greatest Needs' through projects such as Big Buck Night, Tim Hortons Toy Drive, and Senior's Christmas Dinner. The Club also makes its hall in Newcastle available for rental.
Miramichi Transit is also a non-profit organization which has been in existence since 2009. It offers bus service six days a week through three separate bus lines covering the entire City of Miramichi. The public transportation organization held a similar Free Ride Day earlier this fall with great success and terrific community involvement.
"It's partnerships such as these that make the Miramichi such a great place to live and we are thrilled to team up with amazing organizations such as Rotary and the Kinsmen to help give back to the community we are so privileged to serve," said Miramichi Transit GM James Mallory.
