PATRICIA CLARA STEWART
With great sadness, her family announces the passing of Patricia Clara (Flanagan) Stewart, wife of Donnie Stewart, on Friday, August 18, 2017, at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Chatham, NB, on January 12, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jennie (Phee) Flanagan. She was a graduate of St. Michael’s Academy Business Class of 1969, and worked for many years at Canadian Tire, Chatham. Later, Patsy became a Foster Parent and cared for over 60 children within a period of ten years. She always gave her love and compassion generously and never hesitated to open her home for children in need. Her kindness was never ending.
Patsy is survived by her husband of 49 years, Donnie, and the “Apple of her Eye”, their precious daughter Sarah (Stephen Brophy). Also survived by two brothers: Brian (Yvonne), Bedford, NS; Danny (Donna), Whitney, NB and four sisters: Frances (Don Reid), Fall River, NS; Maura (Roland Comeau), Chatham, NB; Phyllis (Richard Kerr), Chatham, NB; Margaret (Said Kouider), Missassauga, ON. and sister-in-law Melanie Flanagan, Barnaby, NB. Patsy was a very special and caring aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, Luke Francis Stewart, one sister Eileen Flanagan and one brother Frankie Flanagan.
Patsy suffered a massive stroke in May of 2008, which left her paralyzed on her left side and confined to a wheelchair. She spent one year in hospital followed by the past 8 years as a resident of Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, where she received such wonderful care. Even though her heart was broken when her health forced her to give up her life as it was, and adjust to one where others had to care for her and her many needs, she was always so grateful for the kindness of those who dedicated themselves to making her life as comfortable as possible.
As a final gesture of giving, Patsy has chosen to donate her body to Dalhousie University for medical research. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Patsy’s life will be held at St. Michael’s Basilica on Friday July 20, 2018 at 1pm with Fr. Paul Doucet officiating. Interment will be in St Michael's Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Mount Saint Joseph Foundation, Saint Michael’s Capital Campaign, Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation NB Heart Centre, or to a memorial of one’s choice.
