The death of Mr. Matthew Robert Augustine, husband of Meredith (Cortes) Augustine, of Parker Road, NB, occurred on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Moncton City Hospital at the age of 31.
Born in Newcastle, NB, he is the son of Duane Augustine of Eel Ground, NB and the late Katherine “Kathy” (Palmer) Augustine.
Constable Matthew Augustine was a 10 year member of the RCMP.
After graduating Depot in 2009, he served in four post across Canada including: Elsipogtog First Nation, NB, Baker Lake, NU, Carmacks, YT and back to his recent posting of Elsipogtog First Nation, NB.
Matthew was a member of Saint Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church and enjoyed many activities with family and friends including: Camping, Hunting, Fishing, Hockey, Baseball and Four Wheeling.
Matthew will be greatly missed by his wife Meredith and their two precious girls, Gia and Jaida; his sisters: Sarah Jane Cooper of Miramichi, NB, and Erin Augustine (Jonathan Mahar) of Eel Ground, NB; maternal grandmother: Sadie Palmer of Miramichi, NB; father and mother in law: Robert and Lauris Cortes of Parker Road, NB; sister in law: Melanie Brophy (Andy) of Blackville, NB; brother in law: Danny Cortes (Lydia) of Bryenton, NB; and his nieces and nephews: Russell and Amelia Cooper, Camden Mahar, Gabrielle and Victoria Cortes and Pierce and Graham Brophy.
Besides his mother: Kathy, Matthew is predeceased by: maternal grandfather: George Palmer and paternal grandmother: Mary Agnes Simonson and brother in law: Tyson Cooper.
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB, on Monday, July 1, 2019, from 7-9 PM and Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 360 Newcastle Boulevard, Newcastle - Miramichi, NB, on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at 11 AM with Father Dan Melanson officiating.
Burial will follow in Saint Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Eel Ground, NB.
In Matthew’s memory, donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton City Hospital Foundation, the Miramichi SPCA, or a memorial of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
