Event Details - The Last Campaign

The Last Campaign is being staged in recognition of the bicentennial of the birth of Peter Mitchell in 1824, and the 125th anniversary of his death in 1899, at age seventy-five. A lawyer, businessman, and politician from Newcastle, he attended the Quebec and London Confederation Conferences and leading New Brunswick’s Confederation party in the election of 1866. From 1867 until 1891 he was involved in the early governance of Canada, as a cabinet minister, senator, MP, and political commentator.

The performance will be in the conversational style of Mitchell himself – seated among the audience and speaking directly to them – with the addition of speeches drawn from his several campaigns. The show will take about 90 minutes, including a short intermission, and time for questions at the closing.
