The passing of Bertha Patricia (Morehouse) Ward of Doaktown, N.B, wife of the late Allison D. Ward, occurred on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton after a brief illness.
Born in Doaktown on March 17, 1931 she was the middle daughter of the late Annie (Betts) and Hubert Morehouse. She would have turned 88 on St Patrick’s Day this year.
She was a wonderful mother to Keith (Elouise), Karen (Vaughn), Krystal (Deceased) and Kimball (Shirley), also a step mother to Allison’s children, Stanley, Cathy and Carolyn, loving grammie to Jessica (Aaron) Morehouse, and Timothy (Brittany) Amos, Adam (Kristen) and Tyler (Alysha) Storey, Hailee (Jon) Walsh and Holly (Nathan) Keenan, special great-grammie to Annabelle, Victoria, and Avery Morehouse, Isla and Asher Amos, Cohen, Liliana and Jeriah Storey and Wyatt Walsh.
Precious sister to Marina (Darrell) O’Donnell and Lena (Late Ramsay) O’Donnell as well as aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Allison and her very much loved daughter Krystal and is now reunited with both.
After finishing high school, she went on to UBBTS in Moncton (Now Crandall University) and graduated as part of the first graduating class of 1952.
She then graduated from Fredericton Business College in Fredericton in 1955 and returned to Doaktown where she was employed at several businesses: Lounsbury Company, Miramichi Salmon Club, Betts’ Home Hardware, Betts’ IGA, B & L Restaurant, Doaktown Arena Canteen with her much missed friend Delores Parker, also past village clerk, member of Doaktown Athletic Association.
She was a member of St John Ambulance for 30+ years, first female ambulance driver and received the order of St John from the Governor General for her dedicated service in 1988.
She loved to knit and for the past several years has donated many pairs of mittens at Christmas time to both Doaktown Self-Help and the Doaktown Elementary School. She loved to go for drives in her Little Black Toyota and would often “drop in” for a visit with other seniors in the area; she also loved all things Mickey Mouse. She will be dearly missed.
