Joyce Helen Johnston RN, wife of Reginald (Reg) Johnston of Miramichi, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, at the age of 83.
Born on February 9, 1939 in Douglasfield N.B. Joyce was the daughter of Albert and Bernetta (Walsh) Connell. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother to her children, daughter Nancy and son Tommy and grandchildren Courtney and Bram, her children were her world, her everything. After graduating from High School, she went to train to be a nurse at the Miramichi Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at both Miramichi Hospitals for over 40 years.
Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, loved her church dearly and had great faith. She was a member of the Alter Guild and other positions.
Besides her family and friends, Joyce enjoyed crafting, all winter sports, Snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling and her favorite sport was skating and doing so until she was 80, especially with all her nursing friends. She loved spending time at the camp and RVing for many years. One of the hi-lites was always attending her son’s and grandson’s sporting events.
Family dinners either at home or at the camp was always her favorite times. She had a wonderful personality and always enjoyed a good laugh; she will be greatly missed by those close to her.
Joyce is survived by her husband Reg of 60 years. Her daughter Nancy Sorensen (Kirby) of Riverview, N.B., her son Tommy (Krista Robichaud) of Miramichi, N.B., her grandchildren Courtney (Lexi Hawryluk) and Bram of Miramichi.
Joyce is survived by sisters Molly Worrell (Late Bun), Linda Shaddick (Winston), brother-in-law Edward Shaddick and sister-in-law Leigh Connell.
Predeceased by sisters Mae Stewart (Merle), Gladys Lynch (John), Audrey Bemister (Lewis), Jean Godfrey (Bud), Shirley Foley (Pat), Marlyn Shaddick, brothers Burton Connell (Jean), Douglas Connell (1st wife Norma and 2nd wife Lorna), Eldon Connell.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Moncton and Miramichi Hospitals especially the Oncology Departments, Extra Mural and Hospice for the excellent treatments and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, on Wednesday August 3, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday August 4, 2022 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Bushville, at 10 a.m. with Archdeacon Perry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery.
