It is with great sadness that family and friends announce the passing of James “Jim” Edward Quinn, age 91 of Miramichi, New Brunswick. He will be remembered as a thoughtful, funny, and caring father, husband, businessman and friend. James was born on February 25, 1931 to the late Arthur and Edith (Longpré) Quinn, and raised in Montréal, Quebec. He moved to the Miramichi in 1966. Always active in his community, James volunteered countless hours throughout the community, most notably as the past President for the Newcastle Rotary Club, the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and The Gideons International. James has been an active member at The Point Church since 1988. James was the owner and operator of Miramichi City Accounting and previous to that he owned Jim’s Coin Shop. James was also one of the founding owners of Miramichi Speedway in 1967, which featured a paved oval and figure-8 racing to the community.
James is survived by his wife Gloria (Amos), and five children, Wayne Quinn (Emily Salome) of Ottawa, ON, Richard Quinn (Rachelle Lanteigne) of Campbellton, NB, Paris Chute (Brian) of Kentville, NS, Lisa DeBow (Brandon) of Cochrane, AB, and Novat Quinn (Joanna Beers) of Lower Sackville, NS; 14 amazing grandchildren and 11 beautiful great-grandchildren; and former wife Deanna Blais of Halifax, NS as well as several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by, his brothers Arthur Jr., Lawrence, Gerald, and Frank Quinn, sisters Dorothy Mustill, Margaret Houston, Florence Castonguay and Anne Robillard, and former wife Dorothy (Karas).
The family will receive visitors at Bell’s Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, on Monday, July 25, 2022 from 7-9 PM. A funeral service to honour his life will be held from The Point Church, 582 King George Highway, Miramich, NB on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 2 PM with Pastor Kevin Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Miramichi Cemetery.
At his request, memorial donations can be made to The Gideons International, whose mission to spread the Word of God, has always been close to James’ heart, or to a memorial of one’s choice.
